The company was founded by veteran property investor and Authorised Financial Advisor Olly Newland along with experienced and successful property investor Carl Burling after a period of being in partnership together.

Property investors, developers, mortgagees and a range of other clients have chosen to use Newland Burling & Co because of its in-house skills, experience and independence from real estate agents, banks and other service providers that may have conflicts of interest.

A wide variety of projects has been undertaken including subdivisions, general and specific investment advice, on-sales, property management, subdivisions, and tenant recruitment for difficult-to-rent or distressed properties. Portfolio restructuring is also another company specialty.

The principals Olly Newland and Carl Burling are investors who have substantial hands-on experience managing their own properties.

Olly Newland

Olly Newland has been actively involved in all facets of property investment and management since the early 1960s both in New Zealand and overseas.
Through his almost 50 years of experience, he has a unique insight into the New Zealand property market. He is now considered one of this country’s pre-eminent property investors and advisors. Mr Newland is a lateral thinker who takes an innovative approach to solving seemigly intractible problems and challenges. He is a former Auckland City Councillor and continues to serve as a Justice of the Peace.

Olly has developed a set of proprietary investment tools, written several best sellers on property investment and continues to regularly present seminars on the subject.

He is married to his first wife; they have three adult children and a growing brood of cherished grandchildren.

Carl Burling

Carl Burling is a qualified engineer who had a decade of experience in the energy and gas industries in engineering and project management roles before he became involved with property investment.
Carl has worked in property investment for the past 20 years, founding his own property investment and management business ten years ago. He specializes in value-add opportunities in residential and commercial property sectors, and he has managed hundreds of projects.
Carl has a wealth of practical experience in the challenges and opportunities presented by property investment and management — including renovating residential and commercial properties, leasing, management, and co-ordinating sales programmes.

Carl is married with three children. He enjoys the outdoors, water sports and competitive yacht racing.
